Hello all
I wanted to send an email to firstly make sure I have set it up correctly and that this is received by all members (if you don’t get an email let me know 😉).
Secondly, to introduce myself to those who don’t know me and to then share a couple of aims we have for the club in the coming months.
Me
My name is Andrew Good and I have been the freestyle admin in the club for a few years. I’ve been around the canoeing world since I was born as my dad was a keen paddler and worked for the BCU (Paddle UK).
I took a break from paddling for a few years, along with some other poor life choices – like joining the navy😅. After having kids, and introducing them to water activities, a memory hit me of a wonderful hobby I used to do.
I joined the club in 2017 and got back in a play boat. After soon realising that with back pain and dodgy joints I was never going to make team GB, I wondered how else I could be involved.
When an opportunity came to be useful and help out with the club I took it; first by coaching and then joining the trustees.
A couple of short term aims for the club
Fortunately for us Dawn has left the club in really good shape, so all I have to do is tinker round the edges with a couple of ideas that we were basically already going to do; but as long as we keep it between ourslves I can claim them as my own.
1) Help wanted
I’ve had a few offers already but I am still looking for some more.
If you want to help with one or more (you don't have to be a paddler if you're handy with a screwdriver):-
- Compound repairs and clean up
- Kit muster and repair
- People that have coaching/leadership qualifications or are interested in getting them
then let me know ASAP.
This is because by Easter I want the club in a position to take on lots of new paddlers: so kit, compound and coaches need to be ready for action. So we have some work to do.
2) New ideas forum
If you think there are ways the club can improve let me know.
Maybe as a new paddler there was something you thought could have helped you?
Perhaps you’ve seen something somewhere else that you think could work for us?
Possibly you have an idea of how to attract new participants?
As an experienced paddler are there things you would like to get involved with that aren't happening?
It’s an open forum, so any ideas are welcome. I would love to have lots of engagement. I was thinking of a meeting in person but if people can email me their ideas then that would be the easiest place to start. If it hasn't come up on the address it is chair@hppcc.co.uk
I'm looking forward to working with you all in continuing the success of our club.
Andrew
