Dear Paddler
I hope that you are looking forward to Christmas and paddling opportunities in the new year.
Our thanks go to all coaches, instructors, leaders and volunteers for all of the effort that they have put in this year to supporting club members. This has been recognised by Andy Steel’s nomination for outstanding coach of the year by British Canoeing. Unfortunately Andy didn’t win, but being nominated is in itself an outstanding achievement.
Despite little difficulties such as no water, or too much water, or no flood lights our coaches have been doing their best to keep activities going and let you enjoy your paddling.
For 2023 we are starting the year on the 7th of January with our New Year paddle and the first of the open pool sessions.
Pool bookings will open on the 13th of December at 6pm and there are 30 places on each session. Please note that refunds for these sessions will not be available unless the club is notified a week in advance of the cancellation, to stop people block booking sessions and then leaving it late before cancelling.
Sessions will be released 3 at a time to give as many people as possible a chance to book.
The New year paddle will be on the 7th of January, and therefore there will be no recreational paddling session on that morning. This is a 12km paddle from Normanton on Soar to Trent Lock, which does require a car shuttle at the start of the day.
Booking for this is now open on the club website. If you need to borrow club equipment then please let me know asap. as ideally we would like paddlers to collect kit on the 19th of December. There may be some space to transport some kayaks on our trailer, but only if we are notified before the 19th so that we can collect the boats next Saturday. Please email if you would like to borrow kit. The trip is suitable for Kayaks, Canoes, touring kayaks and Stand up paddleboards. Paddlers should be confident of paddling 12km, and able to maintain a straight line. There are 4 portages on the trip but we may go through some locks if appropriate, and there are not narrow boats waiting.
If you have any questions as to whether this trip is appropriate for you then please just email us.
We wish you all a happy Christmas and peaceful New-Year and look forward to seeing you out on the water soon.
Kind regards Dawn Scott Chair of Trustees
