Trips away including Sea Kayaking.

Dear Paddler

Well the weather hasn’t really been co-operating recently for us to get out on the water, but we have information on three trips that are coming which help have something to look forward to.
Sunday 17th March
Trent and Mersey Canal, and River Trent
Starting on the Trent and Mersey Canal we will paddle down the canal, passing through some locks to Derwent Mouth where the Trent and Mersey Canal meets the river Derwent and the River Trent, we will then follow the Trent through another couple of locks, to Trent Lock.
There will be at least one portage at the bottom lock at Sawley, but we hope to pass through the other locks.
This trip is ideal for those reasonably new to touring, and any craft including SUPS are welcome.  Club kit can be borrowed, but you will need to collect it and bring it with you, as unfortunately the minibus is not available, and nor is anyone to tow the trailer.
Please book on Eola.
Sea Kayaking
Are you interested in Sea Kayaking.
Amanda Randall is looking to organise a sea kayaking trip to Anglesey for intermediate river paddlers or those who have some experience of the sea.

You must be a competent paddler and comfortable in your kayak in windy and varied conditions.

You must also be fit as it can be tiring paddling on the sea as opposed to a flat river.

The trip is designed for 8 people. The structure of the weekend will be what the group decide they want to do but ideally rescues would be covered and basic skills of paddling in the sea and a couple of trips.

The kayak, paddles and spray decks will be provided but you will need your own drysuit.

The trip does not cover accommodation or food, but there are many options depending on your budget from camping, hotel, b&b or Anglesey Outdoors has a few options.

The cost for two days with two coaches is £200.

The date for the trip and what people would like to do will be arranged after a discussion with everyone who is interested in going.

It is a club trip, and you will need to pay when you agree to join the trip.  If you decide for any reason to pull out after you have made the commitment you must find someone else to take your place as there be no refunds, as we are paying the external guides.

If you are interested, please contact Amanda on amandajr1@live.co.uk

If there are paddlers who do not quite feel up to the required level let Amanda know as other trips can be arranged to accommodate different abilities if there are enough people interested.

Ladybower Reservoir

Late last year Ladybower Reservior in Derbyshire was opened up to paddlers for the first time.  We are planning a club trip later in the year, which will give paddlers an opportunity to paddle in this iconic lake in sight of the famous Howden Dam.

We hope to use the minibus and trailer for this trip.

Dates will be sorted out once we have done a recce trip.

The Wye trip is in June, please remember that the campsite will fill up really quickly so please ensure that you have booked with the campsite, and say that you are part of Holme Pierrepont Canoe Club so they allocate you to the right area of the campsite.

We hope to see you out on the water soon.

Kind regards

Dawn
