Dear Paddler
I am delighted to let you know that the club will be able to resume whitewater coaching this week for the first time formally since the start of the pandemic.
Our coaching on the White Water Course is in three phases: Introduction to moving water – on the back channels of the course, for those with little or no experience of moving water Back Channels improvers – building on skills and progressing further on different parts of the backchannels Main course paddling – moving from the Back Channels to the main course.
Paddlers wanting to join our main course paddling group must have already been paddling on white water and built up their skills on the back channels. Your coaches will have identified that you are ready to move to the main course.
Paddlers wanting to book for sessions on the back channels must be able to do the following: Confidently capsize wearing a spraydeck Manoeuvre their boat confidently on flat water, being able to turn, edge and move sideways Paddlers under 10 – parents should contact Andy Steel on Whitewater@hppcc.co.uk <mailto:whitewater@hppcc.co.uk> to check that this session is appropriate for their child, unless they have already confirmed this with him before.
Club kit is available for these sessions
Costs of the sessions are as follows
Back channels £8.00 Main course £10.50
Sessions will be available to book on the club web site as normal but because names have to be submitted to the WW centre before the session, bookings for these sessions will close at the following times:
Thursday night sessions – bookings close 5pm Wednesday Saturday morning and afternoon sessions – Bookings close 12 noon Friday
As spaces are limited please don’t book for both a Saturday Morning and a Saturday afternoon session on the same day, as we want as many paddlers as possible to have access to the course. Please also note that because of the way in which the club will have to pay the white water fees for these sessions refunds will not normally be available once bookings have closed.
Session times will be Thursday evenings 6pm -7.30 (on water times) + 30 minutes at the end Saturday mornings 10am – 11.30 (on water times) + 30 minutes at the end Saturday afternoons 1pm – 2.30pm (on water times) + 30 minutes at the end
Paddlers should be aware that these timings are all ‘on water’ times, and therefore at the start time of the session you should be kitted up, with boats and ready to paddle at the waters edge. However, each session will then have a further 30 minutes where the session transfers to the flat water for debriefing and the option for practice or rolling practice if required.
If you arrive late for these sessions you may not be able to join the session as the coaches will have already moved the group to the course.
If you book one of these sessions please note the following process:
Book the session online via the club website On arrival for the session, go to the White Water reception at the NWSC and book in – they will have your name on a list – they will not ask for payment. Take the bib that they give to you and wear this over your BA Paddle on your session At the end of your session return your bib to the reception Return any club kit.
If you have any questions about these sessions please contact Andy Steel on Whitewater@hppcc.co.uk <mailto:Whitewater@hppcc.co.uk>
All of the sessions are now listed on the club website for booking for this week, including our flat water sessions, but you might need to look in categories now as there are so many sessions listed.
We look forward to seeing you out on the water.
Kind regards Dawn
Dawn Scott Chair of Trustees chair@hppcc.co.uk <mailto:chair@hppcc.co.uk>
